Mobile terminals are used in automated sorting centers. The terminal runs on the Android system, is equipped with a barcode scanner and is fastened to the operator’s arm with a cuff.
Using the terminal and barcode scanner operator processes mail items arriving at the sorting machine’s outlets. The operator scans the barcode on the parcel’s label with a scanner attached to his finger. Once the parcel is identified, the terminal screen will display information about which container to place the parcel in for future shipment. Terminals help process mail in the following scenarios:
– Receiving mail from a route
– Sending mail to the route
– Sorting mail items
– Forming and reforming containers
Mail sorting centers are industrial facilities, so requirements for devices and interfaces are strictly regulated.
The team tested various terminal models for ergonomics, compliance with industry safety standards and scalability.
